Message from Mr Bartlett

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Heyfield Primary School community for making me feel very welcome at the school. It’s been a busy year and I’m really looking forward to bigger and better things from our wonderful students in the future. I would especially like to thank all the students for their hard work this year. I have also enjoyed seeing our instrumental students flourish during their 2023 performances. If your child is interested in learning an instrument at the school, please let us know as soon as possible as places will fill quick. I will be offering instrumental lessons for drums, keyboard and guitar. I am also looking forward to our choir growing in numbers in 2024.

Please keep in mind that all 2023 accounts for Instrumental Music will need to be finalised before you child is allowed to join in, in 2024.

School Choir - Christmas Carols

Our choir sang for a group of seniors on Thursday and did a brilliant job. They also sang at assembly as a practice before their performance at the Heyfield Christmas carols on Friday night. Well done! What a courageous and talented bunch!

New Preps - Hat presentation

Our new Foundation students received their school hat on Tuesday. It is a very special occasion and sweet way to welcome them all into our school. I believe they had a great day during their last transition day and we will see them again next year!

Grade 6 graduation

Congratulations to all our grade 6 students who did an amazing work with their speeches on Wednesday night. We are very proud of the young adults they have grown into.

Special mentions to the awardees for this year:

School Council Award: Francis Scott and Darcy Hanson

Vern Scott Award - RSL: Dustin Wegmann and Jack Gell

The Lions Club Award: Mason Beattie and Darcy Cruickshank

LOTE Award: Hannah Sibley and Raphi Martinez

ART Award: Mia Meacham

Principal Award: Flynn Mahony and Xavier Stuart

Thank you very much to Ken Noble from the Lions Club, Belinda Stuart from Heyfield PS School Council and Sue & Ted Artso from the RSL for attending our ceremony and presenting the awards. Thank you to all parents and staff for attending too.

Last day of the year!

We usually start this day with our traditional T-Ball game, staff versus grade 6s. We had grade 5s helping set-up and filling up holes rabbits dug, thank you Logan.

Grade 6s were tough this year and brought Kev H with them to score. We were able to convince Kev to run for us, and the opposition wasn’t too happy about this and tried to take him down. Lee Wallace had a hit too. Luckily, Mrs Merlo saved the day, represented by Jamo. What helped most was Mr Fasoli and Mrs Jones hitting boundaries and making runs home with cheers from all.

Scores don’t matter when you have fun, so we decided that for the 35th year in a row, staff won. Champions!

Grade 6s had their water fight and were guarded, high fived, applauded and cheered for their last walk out of primary school..

Some things happened this past week, at school …

  • Our school captains for 2024 met with Kaye from the Heyfield Bakery to discuss lunch orders for next year. They kept in mind our ‘healthy eating’ culture and decided drinks containing coffee weren’t appropriate for primary school aged students, however chocolate cake can be a sometimes food ordered on Fridays.

  • The bell has a new system but is still ringing whenever it feels like it.

  • We had a blue tongue lizzard in the multipurpose room. Maybe it was waiting for the choir to sing!

  • Our next school captains were handed the stick from the current school captains. This was a bit special.

  • Ruby C and Isla M received their Lions Club certificate for participating in the Public Speaking Competition this year.

  • Our friendship is wondering if it’s winter, summer or autumn and is alreayd losing its leaves!! I had a chat to it and reassured we are wondering that too!

  • We could see lots of grade 6 students wearing their shirt front/back and heaps of signatures on them. Much fun! Much of mixed emotions!

  • We had Twinsies Meg and Nic at school this week! Now, this was fun, I think they looked so surprised for a second before bursting out in laughter. What are the odds!?
