What happened this week?


Rally for Remy

We fundraised nearly $300 today with all your donations and this is a great effort. Thank you. The purple wave entered the school this morning with smiles all around, and just as Remy is, full of beans. Jack Gell was very proud to represent Freeman and to win this week’s hous epoints, as Remy was in Freeman too. We all took photos of our outfit and many students asked if Remy would see them. In other words, Remy was on our minds all day and we wish her a quick and safe recovery.

You can still donate to ‘Rally for Remy’ and get raffle tickets until 11th June, when ti will be drawn at the Railway Hotel.


Simultaneous Story Time

Each year, we sit together as a whole school to listen to Simultaneous Story Time and do activities aligned with the book. This year, we listened to the illustrator on how he draws the sloth, then all our students were put to the challenge to draw it too, following the instructions given! What a great effort that was!

Ruby Byrne was our ultimate winner but there were so many other great ones. Miss Schmidt’s drawing was one of them and her squealing at assembly when she realised she won too was fantastic! Very proud of your creativity everyone! You can enjoy seeing your drawings on the library doors, until Wednesday.


MUSIC

A big congratulations goes to our drum group for putting on a great performance at last week's assembly. We are all now looking forward to hearing our guitar groups joined by some of our keyboard players who will perform in the few weeks, at assembly too.

Displays and Learning

I walked around the school this week and noticed some good displays about maths strategies and wellbeing. I thought I would share them with you.

We aim to build the language needed in maths, literacy and wellbeing with our students so they develop skills to express their thinking but also to express their emotions. Language is important at every level and throughout everything we do.


Dreamtime Stories

Our 5/6 students are creating stories, linked to our Koorie studies in the curriculum, they will read to some of our junior students.

This is a great way to offer an authentic experience in being an author. Our junior students will hopefully aspire to do the same.

I cannot wait to hear and read the stories.
