What happened this week?
Music Performance
Message from Mr. Bartlett
A big congratulations goes to room 1, 2 and 4 for their performance at this week’s assembly.
Next Friday, we will have a performance from our guitar group. Parents and guardians are more than welcome to attend.
Wednesday Activities
Last Wednesday, students, in the Life Skills group, learnt to make toasts, and cut them. You would think it’s easy but teaching how to hold a knife was quite an experience with some!
And there was some groovy dance moves at the Laurina Lodge.
Bike Education Program
Bike Ed has started for the 3/4 students and will continue for the next two weeks. The grade 5/6 students will have some sessions too, on Monday and Tuesday, as a refresher. The program will end on a high with a ride to Tinamba. If any parents can help on the day, please let us know.
New Visitors
Mrs Taylor has brought her ducklings to school, and many of our students have enjoyed interacting twith them. We even found Frank sitting there, in the library, cuddling. How cute!
Downsyndrome Victoria
We started the week with some learning together, while students were enjoying a long weekend. Megan Bramble, who works for Downsyndrome Victoria, visited us and gave us some great insight and strategies, which can relate to many of our students, not only children with downsyndrome. We also learned on the day some sign language, including a song about colours. Now this was a learning curve!
Students’ work
This is what you can see on display at the moment on our walls: Learning about similes, perimeter, area and more.
What caught my attention though, was this young lady in room 5: Jacinta, who is new to our school but was confidently presenting her work to her peers. Room 7 students were there too, learning from her presentation and how high standards she displayed.
Grade 2 Sleepover
So much learning! From paddock to plate, our students in grade 2s, learned about the environment that surrounds them and how food gets to their plates. They learned about the water supply around Heyfield and how it impacts surrounding farms, and more particularly the Berry Dairy Farm.
Matthew was able to describe what they all did, at assembly. They returned to school, tired but happy with their day. A very resilient bunch!
THANK YOU
We would like to thank all our sponsors who donated so our students could go to Canberra for their 5/6 camp. It was an amazing experience, which could not have taken place without all of them.
Huge thank you to the Bendigo Bank, the Lions Club, the Timber Festival, the Resource Centre, Lyn Cooper and an anonymous donor.
Thank you also to all parents and carers that helped with our fundraisings.
In addition to the donations and fundraisings, our students were lucky to receive a rebate from PACER, of $67.50/each. This was made possible through a grant, under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program when participating in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
