What happened this week?

CELEBRATIONS

Our NAPLAN results this year were excellent and we were very proud. In addition, our school performance report is looking very positive too.

We maintained our Wellbeing outcomes at a high level and we improved our Learning outcomes steadily. This is the result of hard, committed and focused collective work our staff undertake, to ensure our students experience the best learning. It is thanks to our students who trust us to guide their learning and apply themselves when required. It is driven by program like SWPBS, the Wednesday activities, the Breakfast Club, the intervention reading program and strong teaching and learning practices.

We all have a job: teachers to teach and learners to learn. When we do it well, it is effective.

Well done to all of you and thank you to all parents who support their child’s learning by encouraging regular attendance, reading at home, reinforcing our school values and expectations and for being on the same page as us.

It’s a team effort and it takes a village! And what a village we have!

REMEMBRANCE DAY

Our students leaders walked to the Cenotaph on Monday for the Remembrance Day ceremony. Our school Captains laid a wreath on behalf of our school.

A snapshot around the school…

CUP STACKING

We started the week with learning how to stack cups, and doing it with speed! Our students will learn more about cup stacking and challenge the residents of Laurina Lodge for the next four Wednesdays!

Maths

Our grade 5 students joined our preps on Wednesday to do some maths. They all estimated measurements of various limbs and measured with unifix all items to check their estimation. It was great to hear all students discuss their estimation and then see them measure and count. I am confident our grade 5 students learned as much as the foundation students.

GRADE 6s SPECIAL DAY

Students and teachers celebrated their time at Heyfield Primary School by spending a day together at Wollangarra Outdoor Centre on Wednesday. The highlight was not only the flying fox, but also holding chickens and having some fun times. They returned a little wet after the storm caught them while they were hiking. But all in all, it was a great day.

GRADE 2s SLEEPOVER

Our grade 2s students went to Wollangarra Outdoor Centre too!

It is that time of the year where our students in year 2 get excited about their sleepover at school. Before then though, they enjoy their time at the Weir Wall, led by Mr THE Sean Patmore himself who seems to have had an awesome time too. Thank you Sean!

The group travelled to Wollangarra afterwards where they also had fun with chickens and the flying fox ride. Huge thank you to Smitho and his family for the two days with our students.

They returned to school in the afternoon, for dinner and movie then bed! Some tired teachers today but always so worth it! Thank you to Emily, Ms Wojcinski and Mr Fasoli for a great experience.

TRANSITION DAY

Our new prep students had their first transition day today, and they had the chance to come in their pjs too. They spent some time playing first, as you do when you are in room 4, then they learned some of the routines they will practise next year.

Playing is a very important part of children’s development where they learn to negotiate, communicate, share and as one of our current prep students told me this week: ‘We learn about teamwork when we play, Mrs Thomas’. You can’t argue with that! He was spot on.

We will see our 2025 Foundation students again next Friday.

PYJAMA DAY

A little bit of fun was had by all with our casual clothes day today. Everyone came to school in their pjs and it looked quite colourful.
